STUDYING IN JAPAN

Admission Requirements
A wide range of overseas qualifications is accepted as satisfying the entry requirements.  Each application is treated on its own merits but, as a general rule, students should be in possession of qualifications that gives access to universities in their home country. 

Applicants whose first language is not English, should have English Language certificates such as TOEFL (computer based test 173 minimum score or 500 on the old system), IELTS - Grade 5.5, Cambridge FCE - Grade C or better or equivalent.

The attention of all students is drawn to the special entry requirements for the various  courses.

For Entry to Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/ MEng 

A variety of qualifications can be considered for application for financial aid consideration and/or admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programs by distance learning.

Advanced Level

Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels or 2 A levels + 2 AS levels will be considered for admission to undergraduate distance learning courses..

International Baccalaureate

Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels or 2 A levels + 2 AS levels will be considered for admission to undergraduate distance learning courses.

For Entry to Postgraduate Taught Programmes e.g. MA, MSc

Holders of a good bachelor degree with GPA of at least 3.0 from a recognised  university will be considered for application for financial aid and  admission to postgraduate diploma or masters courses by distance learning.

For Entry to MBA

Holders of a good bachelor degree from a recognised  university and at least 3 years´ post-graduation work experience will be considered for direct admission to the MBA.

For Entry to Postgraduate Research Programmes e.g. MPhil, PhD, New Route PhD

If you are holder of master's degree from a recognised university you will be considered for application consideration for financial aid and for admission to postgraduate research programmes by distance learning.

Course Specification

Course Length

  • Standard Course 36 weeks

  • Fast-Track Course 24 weeks

Lessons Per Week

  • IELTS Examination Classes: 15 lessons per week

  • English for Academic Purposes and Lecture Preparation: 5 lessons per week

  • Key subject lectures and classes (Business Studies, Computer Studies, English Language Teacher Training): 10 lessons per week

  • Total lessons per week: 30 (Each lesson lasts 50 minutes)

Career Foundation Courses in the United Kingdom

The Foundation Courses are designed for students who want to prepare for a university first degree course in Britain, or who wish to develop their qualifications and careers in an English-speaking environment. The standard course lasts for 36 weeks, and there is also a fast-track course of 24 weeks for students who have already achieved a good score in IELTS or TOEFL. The courses aim at taking students from High Schools (Secondary School) in their own country into university degree entry in the UK within one year. The courses are intensive, requiring daily attendance.

Eligibility and procedures

Special entry requirements for Japanese nationals seeking financial aid for distance learning outside of Japan.

 An interested applicant must have appropriate level of English Language proficiency: and have appropriate academic qualifications recognized for standard entry based on comparison with United Kingdom "O" and "A" Level examinations.

1. Completed and signed General Application Forms

2. Certified copies of secondary and/or high school diploma (testimonial) translated into English.

3. Certified copies of academic transcripts (records of your academic work) translated into English.

4. 4 recent coloured passport photos.

5. Applicant who do not have appropriate level of English Language proficiency recognized for standard entry based on comparison with United Kingdom "O" and "A" Level examinations" may be required to take English Language qualification such as IELTS or TOEFL or SAT or ACT. The minimum score that is accepted for application consideration is TOEFL paper based 250. The TOEFL examination may be used for English placement. The SAT or ACT exam may be used for English and Math Placement.

6. Photocopy of personal data page of national passport or national ID Card.

7. Photocopy of BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Special entry requirements for financial aid for Japanese nationals for further education in Japan and/or overseas.

Entry requirements may vary from country to country. An interested applicant must have appropriate level of English Language proficiency: and have appropriate academic qualifications recognized for standard entry based on comparison with United Kingdom "O" and "A" Level examinations.
